Hi there. My name is Corey Marie. I’m a nerdy creative blogger/artist who is more than a little obsessed with music. I have blue hair. I’m 29 years old and I work out of my home studio in Richmond, Virginia. I’m an illustrator and I’ve drawn, written and published comics since 1999. I also make web sites from scratch and have been making web sites for myself and for others since 1996.
What is corey marie ♥ com?
This is my personal blog and web site. It’s also serves as home to my professional illustration and design work.
Why no ads?
In psychology, there is a phenomenon known as Reactivity, which occurs when individuals alter their performance or behavior due to the awareness that they are being observed. This phenomenon also occurs in physics, even on a Quantum level. Even though we can’t explain why, we know that observing any process will change it. I personally believe that monetizing information (especially artistic mediums) has a similar effect.
My blog is intended to be a direct reflection of who I am and the work that I create. My readers, as observers, in turn, help to shape that reflection and provide context with their readership and participation. I believe that selling ad space or sponsorship on corey marie ♥ com has the potential to impact the content that I create, and I’m not comfortable with that.
That said, I do not think there’s anything ethically or morally wrong with selling advertising space on blogs. I just don’t think it’s a good fit for me and my blog.
If you enjoy the blog posts or art work that I create, and are feeling particularly inspired to support me financially (and are capable of doing so), I am confident that you will visit my shop and buy something that you like. I actually prefer this method, because I get your support, and you get something cool that I made or created. Win-win. :)

Why do you dye your hair blue? What kind of dye do you use?
I dyed my hair for the first time when I was 19. I was going to a lot of punk shows then and a lot of my friends dyed their hair bright colors as well. I’m not sure if I started dying my hair to “fit in” or to “stand out,” but it was probably a little of both. I’ve dyed it on and off ever since, and it’s been blue, pink, purple, red, yellow and orange (as well as various shades of black, brown and blonde.)
After going “natural” for a few years (and growing my hair out long,) I went blue again for my 29th birthday, and haven’t looked back since. I’ve been told several times by many different people over the years that blue “looks like my natural color” and honestly, as odd as it may sound, I feel the most like myself when my hair is blue.
I use Jerome Russell’s Punky Colour. It’s a semi-permanent vegetable-based dye. I mix together “Atlantic Blue” and “Turquoise”.
