Here’s wishing the happiest of birthdays to my partner-in-crime.
I hope you have a great birthday and a fantastic year ahead, full of exciting challenges and incredible opportunities. I’ll be right here by your side, as always. Can’t wait to see what’s next.
Love is being dorky together. Love is taking care of each other. Love is sticking together through the bad days, the good days and all of the days in between. Love is inside jokes and best friends. Love is staying up late because you promised each other you’d never going to bed angry. Love is making up and making out. Love is being there for each other, no matter what.
Love is (still) never taking a single day for granted.
Check out my awesome new shelves. They’re EXPEDIT from Ikea. They serve as a room divider between my studio/office & the living room. I’ve still gotta figure out what to put in all of the cubes. I’m so excited with how much they make my studio space feel like it’s own room!
There’s also a desk that attaches to one of the shelves.
Here’s the view from the Living Room.
Of course, the cats immediately declared them kitty jungle gyms and climbed through all of the cubes.
PS: We’re getting a new kitten tomorrow!! I’m so excited!
Friday evening we took Jonah for a late walk and watched the Eaton Rapids Christmas Parade. We had such a fun time. Here are some photos of the parade and of some of the beautiful store-front windows decorated for the holidays!
On Sunday, we put up our Christmas Tree. It still feels a little early, but I’ve got some plans for some Christmas items for the PAPERCUTS shop, as well as a couple of tutorials for the blog here… so I needed to kick start the Holiday Season a bit early over here to get myself “in the mood.”
We bought an artificial tree a few years back. (I’ve heard varying arguments on whether an artificial tree is actually eco-friendly or not, but I figure as long as we keep using the same one over and over, it’s better than cutting down a new one each year. While I miss the romantic nature of going to the tree lot & the smell of a real tree, I’m a big fan of pre-strung lights and not vacuuming up dead pine needles.)
Jonah is pretty excited. He put the star on top (with Tod’s help, of course) but we did the rest of the decorating after he went to bed. I feel like this year will be pretty magical for him. We’ll also undoubtedly spent a lot of time with my family, which will bring a lot of the holiday magic back for me, too.
Tod & I have a yearly tradition of getting toasty on spiked eggnog and singing Christmas songs while decorating the tree. This ornament was a gift from my mother the first Christmas we were married…
…and we made these Cinnamon Ornaments together the in 2004, living together in a 1 bedroom apartment in San Diego – the little gingerbread kitty was made because we’d just gotten a tiny little Puff named Rocky. These ornaments are 7 years old, and they still smell great!!
Before we’d set up the tree, I “caught” Jonah reading one of the Christmas books from last year. He loves to read, and we read books every day, but this was one of the first times I’ve seen him sneak off to read on his own. Needless to say, I spent a lot of my childhood hanging out with my nose in a book, so this photo makes me pretty happy.

Of course, as soon as the dishes start to pile up, my desire to do them lessens, and then it becomes a (capital C) Chore. I’m not particularly proud of my frequently messy kitchen, but I’m confessing my slovenly sins today because I suspect that I am not alone. I suspect that a lot of people have a Reoccurring Chore that taunts them. It’s an ostensibly simple task, yet, it is the source of so much dread that it turns even the most ambitious people into lazy slackers, dragging their feet and pacing around the house, in order to avoid get started.
