This weekend, Jonah had pre-school homework. We did some nature collecting. It was beautiful and sunny all weekend & we took quite a few walks through town & down the River Walk.

I also put together 12 new Feather Lariats today. (above: still in progress.)

We are loving life in our new town. We’ve spent so much time out walking & exploring our new neighborhood & just love the area so much. Even though we moved to a smaller town, we’re closer to everything because we’re actually “in town” now. So we’ve been walking everywhere, enjoying the restaurants (and antique stores!) and just enjoying life on the River.

Today I made a whole bunch of pillows for our new place!

I started out with a sweater & some fabric from my stash.

Plus some vintage zippers in bright colors.

Then I spent all afternoon sewing them up! I really like how the bright zippers stand out (and make grey pillows less boring!)

Here’s a shot of our living room where you can actually see the grey walls and some of our new furniture (all thrifted – but more about that soon!)

Hello, friends!
We are settling into our new place. I’m totally in love with it — we have a lot more space now, plus super high ceilings (with sky lights!!) We’ve been doing lots of painting and decorating and I can’t wait to show you everything, but for now: a sneak peek!

This is our building. Our apartment building was converted from the old High School.

Our back yard is literally a park, and across the bridge is an even bigger playground, skate park and ball park, all along the river.

Jonah’s enjoying his new room —

A few peeks from our living room –

Tod’s new Office.(See what I mean about high ceilings?)

The kitchen hasn’t seen paint yet, but it’s bigger than the one at our old place (with a better layout, and working garbage disposal, too!)

I’ll be back tomorrow with more to share.

We’re having a yard sale tomorrow, so Tod and I have been pulling everything out of closets and dumping everything out of the attic, and we’re tired and it was a long day and tomorrow will be even longer.
It’s only appropriate that I play you one of my favorite Weakerthans songs (which itself is quite appropriate, since it’s about a garage sale.)
Garage Sale. Saturday.I need to pay
my heart’s outstanding bills.
A cracked-up compass and a pocket watch,
some plastic daffodils.
The cutlery and coffee cups I stole from all-night restaurants,
a sense of wonder only slightly used
a year or two to haunt you in the dark.
For a phone call from far away
with a "Hi, how are you today?",
and a sign recovery comes
to the broken ones.
A wage-slave forty-hour work week weighs
a thousand kilograms.
So bend your knees comes with a free fake smile
for all your dumb demands.
The cordless razor that my father bought
when I turned 17,
a puke-green sofa, and the outline too
a complicated dream of dignity.
For a laugh, too loud and too long.
For a place where awkward belong,
and a sign recovery comes
to the broken ones.to the broken ones.to the broken ones.
For the broken ones.
"Our Best Offer."
It’s been rainy today. (It’s been rainy all week.) Hoping we’ll get sunshine tomorrow morning.

The Mister had an unexpected afternoon off today, so I drove into town to pick him up and we took the opportunity to visit our favorite record shop, Steady Sounds.

I picked up two records. I finally got my hands on a cheap copy of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club! I’ve been wanting a copy of this album since before we even started collecting vinyl. This is my favorite Beatles album (though I think Abbey Road is a superior record, and is a close second, this one is my favorite. It is my personal opinion that A Day in the Life is the absolute, no question, best piece of music ever composed.) and now I can finally listen to Sgt. Pepper’s as it was intended to be heard. There’s something so magical about listening to the Beatles on vinyl.
I also treated myself to a copy of Magnetic Fields’ Charm of the Highway Strip. I really love basically every song on this album, too. Especially this one:
Then we headed over to Popkin’s Tavern for a yummy late lunch. It’s a really cool restaurant/bar that is built in an old furniture factory.
Hooray for surprise afternoon dates! ♥ ♥
